prevent wrinkles with sunscreen

It is logical to know your enemy first before launching an all-out war. Your battle with skin wrinkles should also start with knowledge. This way, you will be able to execute a better plan to prevent skin wrinkles effectively.

The number one cause of wrinkles is the sun. For those who are serious about preventing skin wrinkles exposing themselves to sun is not an option.  Exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays causes premature aging of the skin. Your skin is most vulnerable starting from the age of 20 and beyond. Over time, the damage caused by the sun starts to take it’s toll and produces undesirable results such as skin discoloration, lines, and wrinkles. This process is called photoaging.

Effects of photoaging shows in the outermost layer of the skin or the epidermis. When photoaging attacks, the epidermis thins out making the skin vulnerable to lesions such as keratoses and skin cancer. It can also cause the collagen in your dermis or the inner layer of the skin to break down. Collagen plumps up the skin and without it, your skin will sag. Normally, the collagen is responsible for aiding skin damage, but with photoaging, collagen can’t function properly and ultimately breaks down.

You can fight the sun’s harmful rays by applying sun screen every day, prior to sun exposure. It’s application should be repeated several times per day to ensure maximum protection. There are 3 different types of UV radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. Of these three types, UVA is the most dangerous of them all since it penetrates deep within the skin and causes aging. The other two are a lot milder than UVA.

Ultimately, the best defense is to keep yourself out of the sun as much as possible, but for many of us, this isn’t an option in our daily lives. So, choose a sunscreen that specifically blocks UVA and UVB radiation, regardless of the wavelengths, because these two are the most damaging for your skin.  If you always remember to apply it, then you will drastically decrease the damage to your skin from the sun and reduce skin wrinkles.

Using a moisturizer that contains a sunscreen is a great idea. Keeps things simple and is very effective. Remember to reapply if you will be out in the sun for some time.
